FUN FACT ON VIRGIN CORK BARK
Cork bark is a reasonably astonishing material and is why the possibilities of using cork bark are endless. The most significant factor to cork bark’s numerous properties is its honeycomb cell structure. Each cell of a cork bark is a 14-sided polyhedron filled with air with an enormously sturdy and flexible membrane that is both waterproof and airtight. Cork bark is in fact about 89% air, giving it a very low density. But when it is compressed, the air is not squeezed out. Why? This is because the cork bark’s cell membranes will now allow it. This is why cork barks return to its original shape when the compression is removed.
Plant life loves it too - especially orchids and vines. It is often used in greenhouses and nurseries for growing orchids, bromeliads and other plants. Reptile owners use cork bark to emulate the natural look and feel of trees in the forest, or desert terrain. With the same concept, even zoos & nature parks around the globe use cork bark to create a natural habitat. Even, museums also use cork bark extensively in their exhibits.

PREMIUM VIRGIN BULK CORK BARK
"Premium Virgin Cork Bark is the term given to the first-harvested bark of the cork oak (Quercus suber) tree. This specific bark (virgin cork bark) has a rough, natural texture which is non toxic. All natural, sustainable virgin cork bark is the perfect decor for terrariums, vivariums and reptile enclosures. The initial stripping of the cork bark occurs around 20 years after a sapling is planted. After each harvest, the cork oak tree completely redevelops its bark and is stripped every 9 to 10 years until the tree is about 200 years old. When the aged tree is no longer serviceable, a minimum of two new saplings are planted in its place, ensuring the cork oak forest continues to embellish and develop. The cork oak tree also breeds off-springs naturally by releasing acorns that implant themselves and mature into productive cork oak trees. Hence, the cork bark industry is 100% sustainable material.
