Cork Bark FAQ

Common questions about our cork bark, how to use it, and how to order. If you do not see your question here, reach out through our contact page and we will help.

Is cork bark safe for reptiles and amphibians?

Yes. Our cork is virgin cork bark with no chemicals, dyes, or coatings. It is naturally water resistant and rot resistant, which makes it a favorite for reptiles, amphibians, inverts, and bioactive setups.

Does cork bark mold?

Cork holds up well in humid enclosures and resists mold better than most woods. You may see a little surface mold on any natural material when a tank first cycles, but it usually clears on its own once the enclosure settles and the cleanup crew gets to work.

How do I clean or prepare cork bark before using it?

A quick rinse under water is usually all you need. If you want to be extra careful, scrub it with a brush and let it dry, or pour boiling water over it. Skip the soap and harsh cleaners.

How is cork bark sold?

By weight. That lets you order the exact amount your project needs instead of guessing by the piece.

How much cork bark do I need?

As a rough guide, a small tank of 10 to 20 gallons takes about 3 to 5 lbs, a medium tank of 29 to 40 gallons about 5 to 10 lbs, and larger builds 10 lbs or more. See the full breakdown in our cork bark buying guide.

What is the difference between Customizable and Sellers Choice?

Customizable lets you pick the size and weight you want. Sellers Choice is a hand picked assortment we put together for good variety at a better price, which is great if you are flexible on the exact shapes.

What is the difference between all the shapes?

Flats, rounds, half rounds, panels, branches, micro pieces, and substrate each suit different jobs. Our buying guide explains which to use for hides, backgrounds, climbing, orchid mounts, and bioactive floors.

Can I use cork bark for mounting orchids?

Definitely. Cork is one of the best natural mounts for orchids and other epiphytes. Flats and rounds both work well, and the bark gives roots something to grip while draining freely.

Do you offer bundles or deals?

Yes. Our cork bark bundles pair the most popular pieces together for common setups and take 5% off the total. They are the easiest way to get a full kit and save at the same time.

Do you sell wholesale?

We do. If you are buying in volume, check our wholesale application to see if you qualify.
