Cork bark and driftwood both show up in reptile terrariums, but they behave very differently once humidity and heat come into play. Here is how they compare so you can pick the right one.
Moisture and mold
Cork bark is naturally mold resistant and shrugs off humidity, which makes it a safe pick for humid and bioactive setups. Driftwood can hold water and grow mold in the same conditions if it is not cured well.
Weight and mounting
Cork is light, so it is easy to mount, stack, and reposition without special hardware. Driftwood is heavier and harder to secure, especially for backgrounds and climbing pieces.
Heat and warping
Cork does not warp under heat lamps and holds its shape for years. Some driftwood can crack or shift as it dries out near a basking spot.
Look and safety
Both look natural, but cork is consistent, chemical free, and sustainably harvested without cutting down the tree. That makes it easy to use straight out of the box.
